Power Your Release

Tim Turk
NHL Shooting Coach

A stronger release takes more than pushing harder. Tim Turk breaks down how your bottom hand, wrists, and stride-leg knee work together to transfer energy into the shot.

Your power hand—the bottom hand—pushes downward to load and bend the stick, creating energy through the shaft.

As you release, Turk emphasizes fully extending your bottom-hand arm at the elbow while straightening your stride-leg knee. Coordinating those movements helps transfer that energy efficiently into the puck.

Finish with a quick wrist snap as the puck leaves the blade to create tighter spin and a more stable, consistent flight path.
