The Playmaker Report 🚨

Welcome back, {{firstname | Playmaker}}.

This week's featured drill is all about the details most players skip — and the space it creates when you don't.

We've also got a new Playmaker of the Week, development resources from a couple of our regular coaching contributors, and some filthy highlights from inside the community.

Let's get into it.

📈 Player Development

From: Sam Cheema (@cheemahockey) — Head Coach & Founder | Cheema Hockey

One look is all it takes to turn a defender the wrong way.

The wall pick up fake uses your eyes (head — chin to shoulder) and an outside edge punch to sell the fake to gain time, space, and access to the middle of the ice.

This week’s development feature was selected directly from drills and breakdowns shared inside the HPC Community.

More from HPC coaches this week:

  • Zone Entry Patience — @CoachSchmogs: don't force plays at the blue line — Celebrini shows how holding, scanning, and using the back of the net leads to better offensive outcomes

  • Stride Formation Shooting — @mnoreau198: a tutorial you can use on or off the ice — perfect for the offseason grind — to shoot liked Bedard and Matthews.

🏆 Playmaker of the Week

Who: Jesse Perälä (@jesseperala)— C/LW | Kotkan Titaanit (Finland pro)

Heavy shot, quick hands, and the vision to find the open man — Jesse does damage from everywhere.

Two one-timer slapshots off the pass. A top-corner laser. A rush where he goes wide, slides under a defender's stick, and finishes with a wraparound. A shootout goal buried low blocker. And a power play assist — finding his teammate in front for a clean tip. Jesse doesn't just score, he creates. Every touch has intent.

More plays posted inside the Hockey Players Club this week:

  • Playoff Takeover — Charles with a 2-goal playoff performance plus a between-the-legs shot off the crossbar

  • In-Stride Snipe — @Shaun Etherington shoots in stride and goes bar down — clean

  • Flat Toe Michigan — Evan Barr with a smooth flat pickup into a Michigan — the hands are talking
