The Playmaker Report 🚨

Welcome back, {{firstname | Playmaker}}.

Development doesn't happen overnight—it happens one rep, one practice, and one decision at a time.

Whether you’re attacking off the rush, rebuilding after an injury, or growing the game halfway around the world, development comes from consistently putting in the work.

This week, we’re featuring a rush deception drill that helps create space before the shot, recognizing Yi Wan and his family’s incredible commitment to hockey in China as our Playmaker of the Week, and highlighting three more community members making the most of their offseason.

Let’s get into it.

Off-the-Rush Cutback & Saucer Pass Drill

Brandon Rubeo
Skill Development Coach • Quest Hockey

Attack like you’re trying to score, then use deception to create your next play.

This rush drill combines speed, deception, passing touch, and finishing into one continuous sequence.

Attack downhill, sell the shot with your body language, then make a hard cutback toward the wall before slipping a soft saucer pass to the line. That pass simulates finding a late trailer after pulling defenders toward you. Open back up, receive the return pass, attack again, then fake outside before cutting back to the middle for your finish.

The best rush players don’t rely on speed alone—they manipulate defenders into opening space. This drill helps develop those habits while adding multiple quality puck touches and scoring opportunities.

🏆 Playmaker of the Week

Celebrating a member whose passion, consistency, and contributions stood out this week.

Yi Wan
Hockey Parent • Changsha, China

Hockey may not be the first sport people associate with China, but Yi Wan and his family are proving that passion for the game has no borders.

Over the past several weeks, Yi has become one of Hockey Players Club’s most consistent contributors, sharing nearly daily updates featuring their children, Ciara and Tai Tai. From skill sessions and practices to tournament highlights and game clips, their posts offer a window into a hockey family that’s fully invested in the process of getting better.

One of the coolest parts isn’t just watching the kids develop—it’s seeing how hockey continues to grow in places where the game is still emerging. Every post helps connect our community with players and families from around the world who share the same love for hockey.

Thanks for bringing us along on the journey, Yi. We can’t wait to see what’s next for your family.

⭐️ Playmaker Spotlights

🚨 Charlie Walsh (Massachusetts)
Summer hockey is where good habits are built. Charlie shared both a summer league goal and footage from his on-ice training, but we’re featuring the training clip this week. Offseason work is what earns those in-season moments, and it’s great to see him putting in the reps.

🎯 Gavin Cohen (Ontario)
Whether it’s on the ice or on the pavement, a great shot is a great shot. Gavin showcased a deck hockey slap-shot snipe that proves developing your release doesn’t always require a sheet of ice.

🏥 Lindsey Farry (Pennsylvania)
After recovering from a broken wrist, Lindsey is back to shooting pucks and rebuilding confidence one rep at a time. Recovery isn’t always flashy, but showing up after an injury takes commitment—and that’s exactly what the offseason is for.
