Create Offense From the Wall
Greg Wolfe
NTDP Player Development Coach
This drill recreates one of the most common offensive-zone challenges: moving the puck from the half wall into the middle of the ice.
An active defender disrupts the passing lane, forcing the puck carrier to use lateral movement, quick deception, or a change of pace to find the bumper.
After receiving the pass, the shooter must navigate another obstacle and quickly create a new shooting lane.
The drill connects several game-critical skills: reading sticks, finding open ice, creating passing lanes, and getting the puck to the net before the defense can recover.
➕ More Development
Ryan Murphy — Carney 1-on-1 ×3 Drill
Recognize when to attack the puck, control the gap, or take away time and space across three different defensive situations.
Justin Bello — Protect the Puck Under Pressure
Use a wide base and body positioning to keep possession before attacking the defender.
🏆 Playmaker of the Week
Celebrating a player whose development, effort, and highlights stood out this week.
Jake Brothers
Defenseman • Eastern Ontario Wild U14 AAA
Jake’s profile showcases something that doesn’t always receive enough attention: the plays defensemen make to stop offense before it develops.
His highlights include timely hip checks, well-placed poke checks, forced turnovers, and smart plays that help transition his team from defense to offense.
He has also shared goals and development sessions, creating a more complete picture of his game than offensive highlights alone ever could.
Jake is showing the value of a defenseman who can shut down the opposition, regain possession, and help his team move the other way.
