Two Stickhandling Drills to Improve Puck Control & Change Shooting Angles

Brandon Rubeo | Quest Hockey & Hockey Players Club

Better puck control isn't just about having quick hands. It's about controlling the puck with purpose and creating opportunities to make your next play.

This week's featured drills progress from stationary stickhandling to moving puck control, deception, and shooting.

Coaching keys:

  • Let your top hand and wrist control the puck.

  • Keep your bottom hand relaxed and sliding along the shaft.

  • Focus on soft touches, reach, and control before increasing speed.

  • Use shot fakes and lateral puck movements to create better shooting lanes.

The goal? Build the hands to control pucks in tight spaces and the confidence to create better opportunities when the game speeds up.
